Scenes From the Yard

No, this is not a post about Paris Hilton during Rec Hour.

Does anyone know what these little purple flowers are? (Willym?)

And, are these buttercups? (Hey, a gardener I ain't.)

Oh, and check out the sunset from last night. The colors were brilliant! Unfortunately, our house is not the best place for viewing celestial phenomena -- we're not on a hill, and there are lots of trees around. Mostly we can see my neighbor's raised back deck, which they basically use for storage of all manner of junk. So I aimed the camera up. Made me want to jump in the car and drive down to the water, to see the sunset across the Sound, but I knew it would be gone by the time we got there.

When we lived in Hungary, our house was up on top of a hill and we had this wonderful terrace facing west. Every sunset was gorgeous, it seemed. Summers were hot and sunny, and it was heaven out on the terrace, heat still hanging in the air, nothing but a strappy top, shorts, and a beer, watching the sun fall down behind the neighboring hill.

You could still feel the warmth from the big ceramic tiles on bare feet, even after the sun went down.
Okay, enough of that -- I should get up off my ass and take the canines to the dog park. But if anyone knows what those little purple and yellow flowers are, let me know.

That lovely flower looks a lot like Parry's Bellflower,(Campanula Parryi),found as far west as the Wenatchee mountains of Washington state..
Here's a link for you.. http://home.earthlink.net/~sea9948/id4.html ..

Hey thanks! The flower itself looks a lot like it. Not sure though -- these have pretty big leaves, and are high up on the stem rather than growing out of the ground like the site pic? (and I'm farther west, on the Sound, over the Cascades from Wenatchee) I really wish i knew more about plants. I'm kind of frozen as to what to do with the yard.

Of course that's a buttercup...didn't anyone ever put it under your chin and say, "Do you like butter?"

I dunno about the other one, though.

The first one is most definitely a pretty flower. And the other one is probably the same. I am wasting your time.

Very pretty purple flower and buttercups. Them's I know.

A friend of mine, who is an award-winning garden designer and nursery owner always says, "It doesn't really matter if you don't know a plant's name. It won't come when you call it".

Pretty pic of the sunset, too. I missed it, owing to my languishing. Now I don't feel like I missed it.

WM: Szia! oh yeah. I forgot about that. I think it made me mad when I was a kid.

Lorraine: hahaha! So right. It really doesn't matter, does it?

AH: Ah, Time! Speak not of wasted time; tick tock! for whom the clock strikes soundly is in the eye of the waster. (Pretty slick, huh? That's right. If you have an Official Quote, it's not really wasting time. No worries. Yeah.)

Well not sure but the first one looks like something I have in my garden that only blooms in the morning then closes up at night, the name of which I have completely forgotten. The yellow one does look like a buttercup... sort of.... yeah its a buttercup.. maybe... see the problem is I inherited this great garden and frankly all I do is work my fingers to the bone tending to it. But I love the photos, and damn that is one glorious sunset.
